I have been working with Lance Alspaugh of our very own Village Theatre and I am excited to announce a "Mayor's Movie of the Month" Program beginning this September!

In honor of the United States Navy's Centennial of Naval Aviation, the inaugural film being featured as part of this program will be "Top Gun" on Thursday evening at 7PM on September 22nd. General Admission will be $5 and will allow you to relive the experience with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment! At 4PM on Thursday, September 22nd, there will be a classic car procession down Orange Avenue to showcase the cars participating in the classic car races called "Speedfest" that same weekend on-base at NAS North Island. Now, you will be able to enjoy a lead-up to Speedfest at 4PM followed by a special showing of Top Gun later that evening at 7PM!

Future movies in this series will be "Wall Street" and "Ghostbusters" in October, "Bridge Over the River Kwai" in November, and a matinee showing of "It's a Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve.

Stay tuned for more details to come, and start marking your calendars for Thursday, September 22nd at 7PM for the inaugural screening of Top Gun!

Cool! When I was going to San Jose State we had a local theater that was brand new and catered to the college crowd showing movies such as Blade Runner, Dirty Harry, Road Warrior, any Monty Python Movie, Big Trouble in Little China, etc... It was a blast. Would love to see something like that at the Village Theatre!

I am hoping that this movie program will create opportunities for people to enjoy some of their favorite movies on a big screen in surround sound.

Very cool.... instantly reminded me of your "movie nights" for AP US History!

It was fun to show those movies using a classroom projection unit, but I can't wait to see a few of these films with the full Dolby surround sound and the digital projection. It should be exciting :-)

Thats what I was hoping for when this theater opened. Replay of the classics!

It's a challenge for a theater operator to have a blend of new movies and old, but I am hopeful we will be able to strike this balance here in town.

Maverick, your family's name ain't the best in the Navy, but give me a call, I'll watch Top Gun with ya on Sept. 22nd at 7PM at the Village Theater.

Sounds good to have variety in programming in the local cinema offerings.  Let's expand the thinking to include classics from the early days of the theater itself, perhaps on a slow movie night ... let's slow life down sometime and return to a time without cell phones and smart phones.

I know Jim is very excited, when will tickets go on sale? Or will it be first come first served?
