The sheer incredible beauty and power of the Ocean waves along the Strand Beach!

Quiet joy and peace inside as I walked along the Ocean Beach with my Hubby.

The intense feeling of freedom, of awe, felt driving over the Coronado Bridge!

The excitement as my Plane was coming in for a Landing..so happy to return!

Bursting with Pride as our Navy jets flew over my head and over Orange Ave July 4th.

Watching Navy ships go by as I lunched at Spyro’s Gyro on the Landing.

My first Coronado Ferry evening ride to San Diego….(”California Cold,”) windy, rainy, felt wonderful to this Midwestern City Gal!

Outdoor dining at Peohe’s and IlFornaio…the very best! Fantastic Food and Views and Service!

Laughing as my Hubby jogged along the Strand Beach with the Navy Seals! He, being former Navy, so enjoyed those moments!

McP’s!!!! Need I say more-ha!

Watching the Navy Seals practice hanging from the Helicopters outside my window, so cool!

The “Whup, Whup” sound I so missed from the jets flying over. (I had gotten so used to that sound!)

My "scary" surprise as a Navy Helicopter flew right by my House slowly, with the door open and the Guys, with Guns, going by somberly watching us!   (My Hubby had a Friend whose Son was at the Helicopter Base IB! It was their way of saying, “Welcome to the Neighborhood!”)

I lost my Hubby to Cancer shortly after we decided to live full-time in the Area.   I stayed 4 more years on my own, revisiting “our” treasured moments, and making more of “my own.”   The Red Bull Races were awesome!

Unfortunately, health issues found me returning to the Midwest, to be closer to Family in 2010.

Astounded at the loss I experienced after leaving Coronado!

I hope to return for a visit next year.........in the meantime, Coronado, not San Francisco, has "my" heart!

Mary thank you for sharing your memories... how lucky to have been able to live on the island ...What is it about this place that is so magical and gives so many so much happines and contentment?  I can not stop coming back...This year alone I have been there everymonth since the 4th July and will be leaving again tomorrow...Many of my loved ones are and were in the NAVY!  I always stop by Star Park and put a flag there in memory of my father who was stationed in Coronado when he was in the Navy..and this time I will add an extra flag for your husband...I hope you recover from your health issue quickly....  Warmly, Joan Matthews
