I live in the 300 Block of I Avenue.   Twice this week, my husband's Naval Aviator sign has gone missing.  It was "returned" to its proper place, only to have gone missing again last night.  We are hopeful that it will come home again, but would like to know if this is an isolated incident, or if this is happening elsewhere on the Island?  If so, can the signs be replaced (we are aware of the Boy Scout project and know this is unlikely)?  While maybe not valuable monetary-wise, I think it's obvious that the signs are symbolic of the pride one holds when having earned the title.  Thomas is Aviator #363.

Probably just being borrowed for the evening by a young guy who wants to impress his girlfriend with those wings of gold! Worked the first time so he had to go back and borrow them again for the next date. Hope he keeps returning the sign after each use.

Seriously, we certainly applaud Captain Hartmann for his 27 years of service (and keep our own sign in the window not the yard - less wear and tear in bad weather also)

Yeah, unfortunately they disappear from time to time.

People are so classy these days. [/sarcasm]

I wish the SEALs could hang a shingle like that too, but the nature of their jobs makes that not very prudent regrettably.

Well, how long do our Naval folks plan to keep the signs up?   We honored a  100 year anniversary, will they remain on the lawns forever?

We remove our Christmas and Fourth of July decorations.....why not remove these signs, as they have served their purpose, to recognize the importance of our military.  Perhaps all signs should be removed in respect for the 100 year anniversary of the aviators.

Ours was taken too, a few months ago. We didn't replace it, but I understand we could have - through the Coronado Historical Assoc. (behind Tent City, on Orange). A few months before that, we had an adorable stone garden sculpture of a 3-ft baby dragon (which was quite heavy) stolen as well - which broke the kids' hearts. Our neighbors had all their Christmas yard decor stolen, too; another pricey loss.  I don't mind pranks so much - where the things get returned unharmed, (anybody remember the old days of mysterious "surf monkeys" and plastic flamingos around here???) but we all have to keep our eyes out for the occassional thieves.
