Movie Review: "Ice Age: Continental Drift" in 3D at the Village Theatre

Escape the sunshine for a couple hours of fun with Manny, Diego, Sid and the other crazy characters of "Ice Age: Continental Drift".

If you are looking for a good thing to do indoors this week, head on over to the Vintage Village Theatre for some laughs while watching “Ice Age 4: Continental Drift. “  I have to be honest.  If I didn’t have children, I probably wouldn’t see this until it came out on video, if ever.  I do, though, have three wonderful young ladies who all like animation.

I have had only positive experiences at the Village Theatre.  From the ticket seller to the concession stand workers, everyone is friendly and ready to help.  I never tire of seeing a movie in the large theatre with its mural of local Coronado and San Diego to keep me busy gazing until show time.

The main characters from the previous Ice Age movies, Ray Romano as Manny the Mammoth, Denis Leary as Diego the Saber toothed tiger, John Leguizamo as Sid the Sloth, all return.  This time they must find their way back to Manny’s family and their friends when the continent divides and they are separated from home.  Sailing on a huge ice berg, our heroes encounter a little bit of everything, something for all ages.  There is drama, like the kind between an overprotective father and his teenage daughter.  There’s teen drama, like trying to fit into a group but losing yourself in the process.  There are pirates, bossy and dumb, tough and confused and just plain mean.  There’s a tad bit of Greek mythology.  There’s even Granny, who in the end, well, I won’t ruin it for you.  There is also, of course, Scrat and his acorn.

Manny is still stubborn and persistent.    His determination to reunite with his family and sheer will to make it happen are admirable, even for an animated character.  Diego is still faithful and protective and Sid is still, mostly, silly.

My girls and I enjoyed the movie.  It made us laugh, “Ewww”, “ahhhh” and “hahaha”.  The popcorn was great too!

Very young children may not like the lead pirate and his gang of misfits.
