Movie Review: 'The Avengers' at Coronado Village Theatre

Super hero fans assemble! The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye join forces to take on an intergalactic evil.

This Saturday, my brother and I walked down to Coronado Village Theatre and braced ourselves for an exciting movie with twists at every turn.

After a threat to humankind is received from space, special agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) calls upon Bruce Banner (aka the Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Tony Stark (aka Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) to defend the Earth from potential takeover. Getting all of these larger-than-life supers on board with the proposed mission poses a challenge, but getting all of them to fit together into a cohesive group to save the world is even harder. Insults fly and feathers ruffle, but ultimately this group forms the most dynamic and explosive team for the job.

This time, the mastermind villain is Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the half brother of Thor, who hopes to take over the Earth to settle some shady dealings with a destructive alien leader. He works hard to exploit the differences between the protagonist team, but ultimately the avengers pack an equally tough punch.

Even though this movie features its own unique plot line, I would recommend seeing the movies that follow each individual super hero first (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger), because many scenes feature little bits of each character’s past.

“It was really cool seeing all of the super heroes work together,” said Jack Balfour, “The movie also kept me on the edge of my seat and included a few surprises.”

Make sure to see this movie if you are an avid hero follower or love a great action movie. And if you’re not, this movie features amazing death-defying special effects, from an alien planet and Transformers-esque alien ships to a hovercraft aircraft carrier. It’s sure to be a MARVELous experience!
