Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival is celebrating its 18th anniversary! Come join us at Coronado Performing Arts center (located at Coronado High School) on Friday, February 10, at 8:00 pm, Saturday, February 11, at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sunday, February 12, at 2:00 pm. Over 150 musicians and dancers will highlight the wide variety of cultural heritages in San Diego. This event will produced by Coronado School of the Arts.
The first Nations of San Diego International Dance festival was performed at the Lyceum Theater in 1993. Nearly two decades later, this festival has become a tradition in our county. 2012 will be the fourth year that Nations will be showcased at the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
This year, the festival will focus on Chinese dance groups, including the Blue Ming Chinese Dancers of San Diego, Moonlight Chinese Dance Association and SilkRoad Dancers. Though the primary focus of the show is on different regions of China, many other dance groups showcasing cultures from all over the world will be performing. These groups include Devine Desi Dance, of Afghanistan; Highland Fusion, of Scotland; and Nos De Chita & Maracatu Jangada, of Brazil. With a variety of performers appearing over the three-day run, there’s sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
As the Nations of San Diego website says, “Bringing 15 different cultures together under one roof to speak their culture through dance and music powerfully unites our varied community.” It's easy to agree with a statement like this -through the art of dance, we can all be brought together. You can experience the cultures of the world without leaving your seat. It’s like a world tour without a passport. Don’t miss out on this event!
Tickets range from $15-30, with $15 for children and students and $30 for reserved seating. Tickets for this spectacular event are available online or at the CoSA box office forty-five minutes before the start of each show.
