New! Beautiful Outdoor Mural of "Tent City" - A Wonderful Addition to Coronado

My family was biking down the bike path near the Coronado Boathouse and we discovered a wonderful outdoor mural dedicated to "Tent City". It's an amazing historical retrospective that shows what Coronado used to look like around the Hotel del Coronado, the Coronado Boathouse, the Coronado Shores and the Coronado Marina. It's a spectacular addition to the island and it's an absolute must for locals and visitors alike.

Artist Todd Stands created “Imagine: Tent City” at the Promenade. It's located just south of the Coronado Boathouse restaurant (1701 Strand Way) along the Marina. The images are old photos and artwork on tiles that form an incredible mural.

The murals are lovely. When at the Shores, we ride or walk by everyday. What a wonderful tribute to Coronado's history. Mr. Sands is talented. Thanks

I hate to be the odd one out but I believe history belongs in the history books and I am not an admirer of these ultra modern art? pieces like the "wave" or the "Bike". So much of our Coronado historic architecture are Rancho
and Victorian. Also, don't think elected representatives should be forcing payment of these art pieces upon the citizens without their vote of approval. Personally I would prefer some bronze work of nature, like the osprey,
the Egret, the Blue Herron or a statue of one our great benefactors. Just my thought on the subject.

I can't wait until my first chance to go see this new piece of history on display! From what I see as shown here it is an amazing visual encapsulation of so much that was unique to Coronado, circa 1930 or so? Looks like most of the tents have transformed into tent cabins, and the buildings become very permanent looking. It even looks as if this very busy place was the center of town activity in those days, whereas nowadays town people STILL don't like what is the modern version of Tent City, the Coronado Shores complex. What I'd like to know is the story of what made all of that Tent City magic go away!!

Personally, I'm getting pretty beaten down by these modern art pieces.

Isn't the beauty of nature enough?
