Photo: Bud Light and the Hotel del Coronado?

This is the window display/image on the corner of 9th and Orange Ave outside Avenue Liquor Store. For some reason, something in this image just looks out of place to me. Plus, it's on a very busy corner along Orange Avenue right next to the Vons entrance where a lot of underage kids walk by. We have plenty of liquor stores in Coronado, but this one seems to stick out more than the others.

Am I being too sensitive?

I do not have any problem with the Bud pictured with the hotel Del at a Liquor store. It is advertising a product that they sell within, but I did get upset at the new candy store on Orange selling the cigarette candy to our children.
You may have fond memories of this product from the 70's, but back then we clearly did not know the harm that smoking caused. I did speak to the stores owner and although she was very nice it seems that the product is staying. What a shame!

What are we teaching our Children and Grand Children???

We walk by this corner everyday on the way to school and I am not too excited about my kids seeing beer bottles and the Hotel Del together. Is it legal for them to use this image? Everyone knows it is a liquor store and this seems like overkill.

Isn't Avenue Liquor on 9th & Orange (not 8th) Chuck & Barbara must not own it anymore-they have more class than this

Robin, yes, it's on 9th - corrected. Thanks for your comment!

I personally think that it is not a big issue as long as you can explain to your children that the Del does not specifically represent alcohol or vice versa. It is not wrong to drink beer, and it is not wrong to visit the Del.

I agree with Tonia's comment of candy cigarettes, that is sending a positive message to kids that smoking is fun. However, that is everyones personal choice to smoke. If you do not want your kids to smoke, then talk to them about it.

What Kids see and hear has a huge impact!
Comment by MIKE GAPP on January 14, 2010 at 2:24pm
We don't really have much of a choice over what our kids see and hear, Miss Debra.

I am sure that you realize though;

We do have a lot of influence immunizing our children from what they see and hear by strong and loving parenting.

If anyone is really that concerned about what their children see and hear to any degree, maybe they should get their children out of Public School until it returns to the Three R's, and Public School systems skip the indoctrination by people that a lot of times do not have children of their own for various reasons....

As to the advertisements, I'd like to see them go, but I respect a man's right to make a living within legal limitations.

With Neighborly Respect,

Mike

Update: The image of the Hotel del Coronado is now gone from the window. Hmmm...

Legally they couldn't use the image of the Del to advertise their store or another product.
