Photos from Coronado Village Theatre Celebration Day (9/29/10)

You could smell the popcorn a block away....mmmm! The event is from 12pm to 6pm today.

As most of our readers know, the Village Theatre is finally getting renovated after being closed for the past 10 years. There was an 'open house' earlier today that showed off designs and offered attendees popcorn and soda. Both Lance Alspaugh (CEO of Five Star Theatres inc.) and Coronado's Mayor Tanaka spoke at the event and you could feel the 'buzz' in the air.

Construction will begin October 4, 2010 and the theatre will be completed and re-opened in March 2011. We can't wait. Enjoy the photos below:

A crowd begins to gather...

Gotta love this sign.

Former Mayor Tom Smisek and current Mayor Casey Tanaka were on hand at the event.

Mayor Tanaka praised the former City Council and Mayor for all their hard work to help make today happen.

Any "Old School" fans out there? Imagine me doing a Vince Vaughn sneeze (i.e. as groomsman for Will Ferrell's wedding in the movie) While also singing Reba's "I'll believe it...when I see it!". 10 years of limp, not just weak, promises to get this theatre opened have led to what? A little less talk and a lot more action might have resulted in fewer HS kids drinking at the golf course after dark or smoking pot next to the library! Stop announcing what WILL happen and FINALLY get it remodeled. BTW...anybody notice Oct. 4th came and went with ZERO action on the job site? Ooops...that's me sneezing again!

For Tracy Stickel,

Hi Tracy,

I completely share your frustration with the decade long wait for the Village Theatre Renovation. I myself made my first telephone call to the Landlord of the building in 2000. The Village Theatre Renovation Project has been and remains multi faceted, multi complex and has been a test of patience for us and the community alike. The pre-construction phase required intense planning and preparation and I hope you had a chance to visit the site on our Celebration Day to see the planned interiors and layout. Construction actually began on October 1st with Asbestos Abatement Phase One and we hope to stay on schedule to open the new Village in March 2011. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or comments and I appreciate you taking interest in this project.

Kind Regards,

Lance Alspaugh
