Question: How long is Coronado Beach from Base to Base?

One of our members emailed us and asked:

How long is Coronado Beach from where the Naval Amphibious Base meets the Shores Beach to where Dog Beach meets the barrier at Naval Air Station North Island?  Basically, from base to base, how far is it?

We contacted the City of Coronado and Dave Johnson (City Engineer) was able to provide the answer:

8200 feet or 1.55 miles.

So, the next time you are walking or running along the beach, remember that if you go from base to base and back again, you just exercised over 3 miles!

Too funny, lived here for 40 years and never knew the exact distance.. I liked to tell myself I actually ran 3 miles (each way that is). Truth does hurt I guess..

Google Earth's measuring tool is a wonderful resource for determining such distances, for walking and riding around town or even paddling on the water.

Dan, I had no idea about that, thanks for the info!

I used to jog there at sunset.  Funny, the distance seemed much greater to me at the time!
