Rite Aid to Expand into Vacant Cora Mart Building

Rite Aid, located at 836 Orange Avenue, will be expanding to 844 Orange Avenue which was the former location of Cora Mart.  The empty building sits between Rite Aid and Vons.

Multiple sources, including a Coronado Rite Aid employee, have shared that Rite Aid will take over the space and combine the adjacent buildings.  eCoronado.com has contacted Rite Aid corporate to get more details and will provide them when they become available.

This blogger shares memories of Cora Mart in this post:

Cora Mart was a small to medium-sized general store on Orange Avenue, the “Main Street” of the island. The owners stocked dress patterns, dishes, greeting cards, small appliances, house paints and stains, fasteners, curtains, yarns, fabric and notions, tools, floating things for the beach, cheap lotions and cosmetics, bricks of cocoa butter, plastic bowl covers, cheap costume jewelry, art supplies, glassware, lampshades, shoes, shower curtains, candles, and everything else you might need but didn’t want to go off of the island to buy. Hope they'll carry some of the useful items (like Coromart) so we can shop here in Coronado!  So glad to see the blight becoming useful.

I'm glad to hear that Cora Mart's space will finally be occupied, but I'm a bit disappointed to hear that it will be with an expanded drug store. I was hoping that either Vons would take that space or that something new and fun would go in there. We used to go to Cora Mart for everything when I was a kid. I can still shut my eyes and see it. It was the go-to place for spending your allowance on candy, or for about anything you needed for a random school project. And between Cora Mart and The Avenue, they held the market on following you around the store from a less-than-discreet distance!

I too was hoping that Vons could have done the deal and expanded into Cora Mart. Glad something is going in there, finally.

I used to work at Cora Mart. It was the job that started my career.  I remember it being a lot of fun and Mr. C as I used to call him (my boss) also became a good friend as well as my employer.  I'm glad to see that they are finally getting something in that old building.

Why expand Rite-Aid, just to keep up with the Joneses across the way?
