Luke is 7 years old and loves going to the beach all summer long.  His favorite thing to do is to go boogie boarding late in the day near Dog Beach when hardly anyone else is out - between 6-7pm (note the photo above).  He likes to catch waves without any competition.  Without any introduction from his parents, Luke has figured out that Coronado beaches are packed during the day and that he needs to 'think like a local' to avoid the crowds.

Good news locals...Second Summer, also known as Local's Summer, starts in just a few weeks as many off-island schools start even earlier than Coronado schools.  In fact, rumor has it that many Arizona schools start next week...can they really start that soon?

So from mid-August to the end of September, enjoy the warm days and a little less congestion as you walk, ride and drive around Coronado.  It won't matter to Luke whether it's crowded or not, just don't snake his waves down at Dog Beach.

I remember when we used to live in Coronado in the 70's and 80's.  My kids where all just growing up and avid surfers.  I remember my oldest son used to get up and do his paper route at the Coronado shores and then go surfing before school.  He didn't wait for summer or second summers he did it year round.
