Seph Huber joins Coronado’s Orion Capital Management LLC
Joseph F. (Seph) Huber has joined Coronado-based Orion Capital Management LLC as Managing Director. Seph brings to Orion a nearly 20-year track record of success as a proprietary trader and hedge fund manager with major financial firms in New York and London.
Seph began his career in the capital markets at PaineWebber, Inc., where he worked on the proprietary trading desk and eventually managed over $2 billion of equity index and option positions for the firm. He transferred to London in 1990 to manage the firm’s over-the-counter options business.
In 1991 Seph moved to Smith New Court PLC, where he served as head of European and African proprietary trading. He was responsible for generating revenues using the firm’s capital in the UK, Dutch, Swiss, French, Italian, German, and South African equity markets, typically by taking hedged positions in equities, convertible bonds and warrants, and through arbitrage between physical commodities and commodity-based equities.
In 1996 Seph co-founded and managed a hedge fund for Standard Bank London PLC that focused on South African equities and derivatives. The fund generated an audited 33% compound annual return during his 3-year tenure.
Seph returned to the U.S. in 2000, when he helped to found and served as Senior Vice President for Longitude, Inc., a financial technology firm that invented and commercialized an innovative new market micro-structure for major capital markets clients, including Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Swiss Re and the New York Mercantile Exchange. Longitude was sold to the International Securities Exchange in 2005.
Most recently Seph was a managing director at Capstone Investments in San Diego, arranging public and private debt and equity investment banking transactions in a variety of sectors. He holds a B.A. in economics from Colby College and an M.S. from M.I.T.’s Sloan School of Management.
