SoCal Regional Champs - Coronado High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team

The Coronado High School Girls continued on their winning streak on March 11th by defeating La Jolla 3-0. The team qualified for Regionals after winning the CIF Title on March 5th.

Regionals Recap

• Goals were scored by Ali Culora (GU18) with assist by Katie Centeno (GU17), Katie Centeno with assist by Gabi Pietkiewicz (GU17), and Mary Grace Braun (GU17) with assist by Katie Centeno.
• Shutout by Cory DeMarco (GU17) and defenders Brianne Clifford (GU17) and Mariah Stacy (GU18).
• CHS was the #4 seed and defeated #5 Palos Verdes 2-1 in Quarters, and #1 Santa Margarita 2-0 in Semi’s, and #3 La Jolla 3-0 in Finals.

CIF Recap

• Goal scored by Mallory Mitchell with assist by Stephanie Hamilton.
• Shutout by Cory DeMarco (GU17 Premier) who had 8 saves including a game winning save with 1 minute remaining.

The storyline ends with an unbelievable and extremely successful high school career for all of the 14 seniors, winning 3 CIF titles, 3 Western League titles, 2 SoCal Regional Semi-Final appearances, and finally a SoCal Regional Championship.

Head Coach Kiko Medina, also Nado Select’s Director of Olders, commented on the team, “I think that the success of this team is reflective of the quality players being developed by Nado Select. The club has made strides providing a soccer program that has proven to be effective. Although the High School team is compromised of players that play at Nado Select as well as at other local San Diego clubs, most of the girls started their careers at Nado Select. The seed was planted early and all the girls have shown their passion for the game by seeking out and continuing play at the top level. The team’s chemistry and the fact that these girls get along so well were also contributing factors to their success. I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished as a team and I am honored to coach a group of girls that have achieved such great success through their meticulous hard work.”

The CHS team is composed of 18 current or former Nado players. Current Nado players include:

• GU18 Nado Premier—Mariah Stacy, Alana Pokorny, and Ali Culora
• GU17 Nado Premier —Ariel Ochoa, Katie Centeno, Cory DeMarco, Brianne Clifford, Jessica Helmstetter, Gabi Pietkiewicz, Sydney Bennett, and Mary Grace Braun.
