One area is Coronado that compares to no other is obviously the beach. People come from far off places in order to visit our soft and sandy shores. What's better than the beach, you might say? I would say the Coronado Dog Beach.
Coronado Dog Beach is located at the very end of the long line of sand we call a coast, otherwise known as "Ocean Boulevard". It stops at a fence, blocking unauthorized personel from accessing the North Island Naval Base.
Coronado Dog Beach is wonderful, not only because of the friendly animals running around, but because it is the premiere place on this island to collect shells. All kinds of different shells show up on that beach. Some days there are more shells than other days, but you will always find that one shell that captures and enraptures your attention while you are there. Perhaps even more than one. Perhaps you will even find some of that oh so coveted sea glass.
I have a bag or two of shells lying around my house now, waiting to be used on my next creative project or just to be placed in a jar as a nice table decoration. Either way, I'm finding uses for them. So get down to the Coronado Dog Beach and collect some of your own, but never go alone. It's always more fun to go with a friend, especially if it's a furry one.
