Coronado’s Dr. Felix Awarded Superintendent of the Year
Jeff Felix was named today as the regions superintendent of the year. The Association of California School Administrators and San Diego County School Boards Association announced the award in advance of an annual celebration of educators on April 26th at the Evening of the Stars, “Honoring Our Own” Awards Dinner. Held at the Sheraton San Diego Resort and Marina, the ceremony will feature Dr. Felix and other awards, such as principal of the year and school board member of the year.
Dr. Felix was selected to be Superintendent for the Coronado Unified School District in 2008. Dr. Felix has served as a superintendent for over 20 years in three other organizations: Bonsall Union School District, San Pasqual Union School District, and Light & Life Christian School. He received a similar award in 2003 as Superintendent/Principal of the Year. His educational experience as a teacher and administrator spans 30 years.
Felix earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Northern Arizona University in 1975. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Computers and Education from National University in 1997 and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of California San Diego in 2008. His research on edublogging represented the first study on the use of blogging as an instructional practice. His study was published in Talking Points, a journal of the National Council for Teachers of English. His interest continues to be creating better learning opportunities for the Digital Age child and implementing 21st century instruction in all classrooms.
He is currently serving on the county’ s Achievement Gap Task Force Committee, Executive Committee for the Classroom of the Future Foundation Board of Directors, Vice Chairman of the San Diego CIF Board of Managers, and President of Light & Life Christian School’s Governing Board. Jeff has also served as an advisor for the Think Tank created by Bill Gates called “bgC3.”
Jeff has lived in Escondido most of his life and has been married for 37 years to his wife Debbie. Together they have raised two daughters and now have four grandchildren. He spends his leisure time playing golf and tennis.
