Veterans’ Day Observance, Nov. 11
The Coronado Council of Churches will hold a brief Veterans’ Day observance on Friday, Nov. 11 at Star Park. Veterans’ Day began as Armistice Day, ending hostilities in World War I. It was set for “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” in 1918 when Germany signed the document ending the war in Europe. The custom of a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. will be continued at this observance, in addition to short readings, an invocation and laying of a wreath. The singing of “America the Beautiful” will conclude the service. The community is invited to join local clergy and chaplains on this occasion of remembering all who have served in our nation’s armed forces. The date is especially significant this year – 11/11/2011, at 11 a.m. For more information, please contact the council president, Rev. Steve Mather, at (619) 437-8757.
