Walgreens Moving into Petco Building on Orange Ave?

eCoronado.com has been getting tips that the new owner of the vacant Petco building on Orange Avenue will be Walgreens. We put in multiple calls to the commercial property listing agent to confirm, but we did not hear back immediately. Is there anyone in the 'know' that can confirm this? If it is Walgreens, what do you think about this addition to Coronado?

Walgreens Company Overview

Founded in 1901, Walgreens provides the most convenient access to consumer goods and services, and pharmacy, health and wellness services, in America. The company has recorded 34 consecutive years of record sales and earnings, a track record matched by only one other Fortune 500 company.

Walgreens is taking steps to ensure the company’s continued success in the face of a weakening economy. We are transforming into a more efficient and customer-focused company, both for drugstore customers and for patients and payors seeking quality pharmacy, health and wellness services that are accessible and affordable.

Coronado doesn't need another drug store. Trader Joe's where are you? This is the perfect spot for you!

We don't need another drug store or another food store. I like Trader Joes too, but Albertsons, Vons, Farmers Market, Commissary and Boneys is plenty for our small community.

Boooooooooo, We don't need another chain store like this. Everything that it is going to have is already provided at stores already in Coronado. Keep the town homegrown and interesting by letting a unique store in.

Why would the City Counsel approve this? We don't need it and we don't want another large chain store here. The thought of a Walgreens in Coronado is just contrary to the essence of Coronado. I know it's a big space and that the landlord needs to rent it, but come on - try to work with the community and keep with the spirit of it. Just say NO to Walgreens - voice your opinion to the City Counsel/

I was hoping for Trader Joe's.....

The City Council has not approved anything new for the Petco building. The City's formula retail ordinance allows for up to 10 franchise/chain establishments like a Starbucks, etc. I haven't heard anything about a Walgreens, but it is well within the realm of possibility.
