Coronado Roundabout - Adella, Pomona, 7th, Pomona Park

If you look at this ROUNDABOUT with a cursory glance, as most observers have apparently done, it looks like a traffic calming experiment. This project has taken a lot of planning and engineering before it was implemented and a lot of sign posts, rubber curbs and lots and lots of permanent white and yellow street markings during implementation. Unfortunately not much THOUGHT was given to it!

Disabled people in wheel chairs and baby carriage pushing moms on their way to the park were confronted with an impasse! Few able bodied city officials, engineers, and reporters have looked closer at this mess. It has blocked a wheeled passage continuing on Pomona and crossing from 7th and the North side of Adella allowing no path to the park and continuing on Pomona toward the beach. It is embarrassing and our engineers and their managers should apologize for their inept design, implementation and supervision of this experiment!

Unfortunately they are protected against liability for such mistakes and the costs to fix them.

In essence, this experiment blocked wheelchair paths, eliminated parking spaces, painted 3 and a half crosswalks that start at a curb and end at a curb, well, the 'half' which is the termination at the park on Pomona ends at a storm drain, with a sign post and a tree in its path. I would call this "STUPID IS WHAT STUPID DOES".
Shame on our engineers and the people who authorized them to do this!
