Here's a rare video clip of the Beat Farmers appearing on the Dave Letterman show. I believe the date on this show was June 14, 1991, the same night the band played at the Lone Star Roadhouse in New York City.
At the time, the Beat Farmers were Joey Harris, Jerry Raney, Country Dick Montana and Rolle 'Dexter' Love. As you watch this clip, you'll see that this isn't really the Beat Farmers performing per se, but the Beat Farmers playing with the Paul Shaffer band. Country Dick is playing the accordion, decked out in his duster coat and beer goggles. If you look closely, you can see that guitarist Jerry Raney (wearing sunglasses) is wearing an Ace bandage, as he had some some kind of hand injury that day, and uses his left hand to shake hands with Letterman after the song is over.
On this clip, Dave Letterman talks about how he wishes he could join the Beat Farmers if his TV gig ever falls apart.
That is some classic musical history! I did not see the actual Letterman show when it aired, but my office manager did where I worked at the time, and I clearly remember her telling me about it.
